In my opinion, the word "underrated" is extremely overrated, but if I have to choose one underrated song from yearly Top 100, let it be San Francisco, though it had strong competition from Norway.
Kirk Francis are actually Jack O’Hea & Josh Best-Shaw who met in 2017 as students in Cornwall. This song was recorded during pandemic lockdown so no wonder that guys found escapism in dreaming about California and Arizona. They labeled song "dreampop" on their Soundcloud and I find it a sign of the time - in the 1990s songs like had their secure place in the mainstream, like Pet Shop Boys' Being Boring or Paris Paris, huge airplay hit in Poland. Funky bass provides unexpected counterpoint to singalong chorus. Duo released one more song in 2020 - more guitar-oriented Words I Never Heard. It's a perfect fit for post-Mac de Marco world we live in but I believe they would pursue new direction more.
