Shura - What It's Gonna Be?

Bloggers love labels like Song of the Day. What It's Gonna Be? - new offering by Manchester singer of Russian origin Alexandra Lilah Denton was definitely my Song of the Day when it was out, is still my Song of the Week...but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended as my Song of the Year from my Album of the Year!

This nice and funny lady was skirting ballad Janet Jackson territory for a long time many times prior. Now she lifted song title from her songbook but it's wholly different affair altogether. Euphoric synths scream '80s!' but it's not a simple retread of M83's Midnight City like so many other electro-pop songs these days. Actually, I can imagine The War on Drugs covering this melody in a rock manner and Shura's yearning vocals lift the song to another level.

Shura's debut album Nothing Real drops on Polydor 8 July 2016. Don't sleep on it by any means. I'm shure this will be electrosoul LP our times deserve...and more.

Next: some notes on my May music favorites and new Twitter followers.
